To Create a New Destination Workgroup

Click for information about destination workgroup options.

  1. In the Policy Editor dialog box, select the rule for which you want a new destination workgroup and click Edit Rule. Or, in the Policy Editor dialog box, click New Rule.

  2. Click Customize Destination. The Customize Destination Workgroups dialog box appears.

  3. Click New.

  4. In the Destination workgroup box, type a new name for the destination workgroup. When you create a rule, you must give it a name that is unique to the LAN. Click Intel Packet Protect Naming Conventions for guidelines about naming rules, destination workgroups, and security actions.

  5. To add systems to the destination workgroup, in the Add computers by text box, select how you want to identify systems for addition to the destination workgroup: by IP address or by system name.

Note: Check with your administrator to determine how to add systems to a workgroup. If the system you want to add to this workgroup has a permanent (or static) IP address, add systems to the workgroup by IP address. If the system you want to add uses dynamic IP addresses (where a temporary IP address is assigned to a system for each session), add systems to the workgroup by system name.

  1. Type the system name or IP address for a system you want to add to the workgroup. You can add as many systems to the workgroup as you like.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Click OK. The selected destination workgroup appears automatically in the Destination Workgroup drop-down list in the Edit Rule and New Rule dialog boxes.

After you create a destination workgroup, it can be used in any of the rules in the System Policy.

When you create a new rule or modify an existing rule that uses a new or modified destination workgroup, you must also create or modify the exact destination workgroup on any systems on the LAN that use that rule. If you do not, you may not be able to negotiate a secure association using that rule.
