Test the Adapter (Optional)

Intel's diagnostic software lets you test the adapter to see if there are any problems with the adapter hardware, the cabling, or the network connection. It's a good idea to run diagnostic tests every time you install an adapter. You can also use diagnostics to isolate problems during troubleshooting.

Windows* 2000 and NT* 4.0

  1. Double-click the Intel PROSet icon in the Control Panel or system tray.
  2. In PROSet II, click an Intel adapter to select it.
  3. Click the Diagnostics tab. A list of available tests will be displayed.
  4. Click Run Tests. You can also select/deselect individual tests with the check boxes. If an error is detected, information about the error will be displayed.
  5. Repeat steps 2 - 4 for each Intel adapter installed in the computer.

NetWare* or DOS

If this computer already has Intel network drivers installed, shut down the server and boot to DOS.

  1. Insert the Intel CD, switch to that drive, and at the DOS prompt, type: DIAG100 and press Enter.
  2. If you have more than one Intel adapter in your computer, an Adapter Selection menu appears on the screen. From that menu, select the Intel adapter you want to test.
  3. From the Main menu, select Test adapter and then select the type of test you want to run.
  4. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each Intel adapter installed in the computer.

Responder Testing

The Intel adapter can send test messages to another Ethernet adapter on the same network. To set up this type of responder test in Windows NT, see the PROSet II online help. For NetWare, follow the on-screen instructions in the diagnostic program.
